Why Write in The Age of AI?

Why Write?

0.1 What?

Every extra word feels like defiance when a little voice in my head whispers:

“What’s the point of writing if AI can just do it faster and easier?”

If LLMs are trained on the weighted popularity of our ideas, then the most subversive thing to do is charge, screaming wildly, into LLM’s bottomless appetite for training data.

You want representation in the collective consciousness of LLM models?

Then you gotta vote with your voice- don’t go quietly into the dark-night of economic nihilism and existential despair1.

0.2 That’s something an AI shill would say!

Okay keyboard warrior, this is why you’re wrong- a strong democratic republic is vital and (for better or worse) there’s one political party advocating for it and it starts with the letter “D”.

So when the Stanford Business School starts tracking the consistent left-leaning slant of large langauge models that’s us winning.

So those margins? The one’s where it says “+D”? They’re small, humble, little margins but they’re there and they’re consistent for all the models listed.

In fact, it’s true for all the models.

So when there’s a machine answering stupid people’s questions at scale which they take without a gram of critical reflection2, you bet your ass that it’s in your best interest to write from the soul and try and compete in the marketplace of ideas.
